My Passion & How I Inspire

My emphasis is on working with students to resolve their problems, in an age-appropriate and exciting way.

I get to know what a student finds difficult, assess their current attainment and then break down topics in such a way that we can deal with one or two key issues per session. I then informally test this knowledge in later sessions. This helps both me and the student see what needs to be worked on, and makes it easy to see that progress is being made.

When tutoring French, at least 10 minutes will usually be spent on speaking and general conversation. I have found this to be the most effective way of building up confidence and improving marks.

Tutoring to me serves a different purpose to learning at school, so I like to maintain an informal atmosphere. This makes the process of learning and testing seems less daunting. It also allows students to develop an interest in a subject, rather than seeing it as a necessary evil.

I have been tutoring since 2016 and have particular expertise in Pre-U French. I also have worked with students preparing to sit the 13+, GCSEs in French, Latin and Classical Civilisation (Edexcel, OCR) and A-Levels in History (Edexcel).
