I utterly loved my tutoring experience in Beijing: I was there for eight months in total and had the pleasure of tutoring my lovely tutee, who was 8 years old at the time. I stayed at the pupil’s home in the centre of the city, which was ideal as it meant that we could totally immerse the pupil in English: it’s really useful to be dedicated to one pupil alone as you can be as flexible as necessary to fit around their needs.

This meant that we were able to make extraordinary progress with the girl’s level of English: so much so, that by the end of my stay, she was able to apply (and get into!) English boarding schools. In other words, she journeyed from novice to fluent within less than a year, which was a real feat (for both of us!).

Overall, it was an illuminating cultural experience for both parties: indeed, I learnt and developed an awful lot during my stay and I would love to do something like this again.

I’d say that residential tuition is a real treat. You get to focus on doing what you love (tutoring) whilst visiting new countries, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.
