Religious Studies 11+ Tutors

Tavistock Tutors provide religious studies 11+ tutors in the London area. Passing the 11+ is often a prerequisite for gaining a place at some of the countries best schools, especially in London. Yet despite the intense pressure and high stakes involved, the pass rate ranges from only 3-30% nationally. Although, for those with help from a Tavistock Tutor, it is considerably higher.

Tavistock Tutors is one of the few agencies to have a dedicated 11+ team. In addition to this we interview all of our tutors to ensure they have a combination of extensive, successful tutoring experience with religious studies at the 11 + level, a first class academic record, and the willingness to go the extra mile. This is the Tavistock Tutors ethos.

Many different elements make up the religious studies 11+ course. The course contend varies more than any other subject at this level depending on the school and exam board. Your child could be learning about any of the five major religions, from any angle, as well as philosophy and ethics. Some of these modules contain large and complex concepts and philosophical ideas from figures such as Aristotle and Plato or even Dawkins. This can daunt a first time student of religion, as they often feel this is far beyond them.

I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student's cognitive position. When teaching I guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal of the lesson. I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with the student. I break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key...

I strongly hold that before any progress can be made, the tutee must realise that they are not alone. Getting to know my tutees - what drives and inspires them when they are at their most relaxed - is integral to enabling them to become motivated learners. It is my role to be there to encourage each step of the...

My teaching philosophy is grounded in self-reflection, creativity and self-efficacy. I believe that as a tutor my role is to help students explore their place in the world, embrace diversity and encourage critical and independent thinking. I view learning as a process that should include personal as well as intellectual growth. Not only do I consider these principles central to...

My aim is to make learning as engaging as possible; challenging enough to be interesting but always such that my students feel empowered to grasp the relevant concepts. Ultimately, I like to show my students how to love these subjects as much as I do....

Every student’s needs are different, and my tuition reflects that. The key thing in all cases is to have a dialogue with the student, both in order to pinpoint the focus of the teaching as we begin and as a way to expand the students’ ideas and interest in the subject. I was tutored myself as a teenager and the best...

Despite what you might think, I struggled at school when I was younger. Classroom learning can be boring and difficult. Teaching is too often formulaic and repetitive. It wasn’t until I started working independently that I began to experience success and develop a real love of learning.

One-on-one tuition can make a huge difference not only to a student’s results but...

I believe that learning and studying does not have to be a struggle. The key is to find out the learning style of each individual and adjust the lesson to match what works best for each person. It is also important to keep lessons and dynamic as possible, and even with an hour, to try alternate between reading, writing, testing...

I am an enthusiastic and friendly tutor, dedicated to creating a comfortable environment for students to work hard and be creative. A solid knowledge base, good analytical skills and critical thinking are essential to succeed in academic learning but I believe that knowledge is best acquired when it is contextualised and well structured. I therefore offer teaching which deepens the...
